She's here....

Once again I'm delighted to snap one of my granddaughters arriving for a summer  visit.
Alas, only for 2 weeks this year.

you can see another flash back here  ( I hope)

On the line...again

This is the time of year when the some of the antique   quilts come out.

Whether they are awaiting a mend at the cottage,

on the  antique drying rack,

  over the rails

or pinned upon the railings at the market.

They get hung on the line in my side drive too.

Nothing like a good airing, I say.

Wool stash!!

I really have to do something about my ever growing yarn stash....as in 'stop buying'.

I stash it in vintage sewing baskets,

the old family bassinette,

baskets all over the house,

old laundry baskets picked up from the trash

and we are not mentioning all those liquor boxes on top of the wardrobe  (  yarns  from the 1980s in these)

Oh,and there is my yarn cupboard at the cabin too.

Ravensdown

What' s this lurking in the bottom of my bag? Is it ketchup? hand cleaner?
A quick google told me it was sun tan lotion. I must have picked it up

at a lovely day out at the Dargaville Field Day last March.

Jitney service to the show from the parking lot.

If you want several tons of farm fertilizer

a $10.000 manure spreader or a milking machine

this was the place for you.

Look at those prices!

We managed to see some of the tractor pull.

" and now, ladies and gentlemen, lets give a big hand to Cody from Tutukaka. This is Cody's first  competition and we wish him well"

Cody must have been all of 11 years old!

Loved it!

Well planted

HEADS UP....lots of photos

Stepping away from textiles for a bit.

Last week we stayed with some very old friends at their new home  in Niagara on the Lake.

They have bought a house with a very well established shade garden.

I have to say its the most well designed garden I have come across.

Not large, and first planted about 1987.

.
Perfect for what may be their last home don't you think?

I would have liked to have made a collage of these pics, but I don't know how.
Another thing to work on.....sigh.

 Back to vintage textiles soon.

Dogwood

Not often you see a garden picture from me, but I have to say, our dogwood, at the end of our city garden is magnificent .  Due to all the rain we have had this year

Please,  dont ask us to take down the old tire swing, there would be a community riot if we did.

update on scarves

Alas,no Liberty scarves for  my collection on my latest foray to the thrift stores to restock  my shop ( I had not been since March -- honest)

I bought an unusual Jacqmar scarf.
Jacqmar always reminds me of my mother, see my avi here, I believe they were made in Rochester, near where I come from.

The price was right on this nice quality cruise line souvenir

but I dont care what the price is when it leaves a nasty glue mark like this!!

A somewhat bizarre take of of Jacqmar - made in Italy???

My favorite, a unisex old Macclesfield silk, 18" selvedge to selvedge. Love it and it is staying with me.

Also staying with me, at least for now,  a summery cotton Perry Ellis.

The first Marimekko I have ever thrifted destined for my etsy shop.

Gorgeous lipstick  red also  destined for fabriquefantastique  --  I think.

And the requisite Hermes --Bride de Cour.

Lots more fabulous pieces, dare not tell you how muchI spent and how many I acquired for the shop.

opening up

This is the latest we have opened up our summer island cabin.....ever.

Drowned, due to the rising lake levels and the enormous amount of rain.

Sigh.

Lots of work to be done.

But lots of signs of life too.

The sun still sets on one side of the island

as the full moon rises on the other side.

Its good to be back.

Re visiting Liberty

Found lurking at the back of my closet,

a zip lock bag of vintage Liberty of London scarves.

They have not seen the light of day for at least a decade.

I'm wearing this apricot one as we speak, an unusual colour for me.

The pretty nile green with the old tag is my favorite.

1970s  perhaps with a hand rolled hem.

Think I will  visit some of my other bags and boxes soon.
